There is a God. All is well. There is justice in the world.

I know this (along with a landslide of other hyperbolic optimistic cliches) because of three words: Patricia's. Big. Closet.

You won't believe me when I tell you about it, and honestly, I am half-inclined to keep this secret to myself. But my excitement over this recent discovery -- a magnitude of excitement that propels my innate big-mouthedness -- outweighs my selfish greed.

But barely.

OK. (Breathing and collecting myself.) Imagine a world where 22 of the richest and best-dressed women in the state gave you their barely (or often not at all) used high-end clothes and accessories for super cheap. Like Ross and Marshall's cheap. Except way better designers and more in-vogue styles, and minus the screaming children in the store and did I mention floor-to-ceiling Coach and Prada shoes for $25? Did I mention three showrooms packed with more than 2,000 items to choose from? Designer jeans for $35. Dresses for $45. Coats for $45.

OK.

Imagine if you happened to know a former TV personality, and she invited you into her stunning home in the Boulder mountains, and she cranked up fun music and helped you pick out the most flattering outfits -- for free. With no obligation. No catch.

Imagine this hypothetical woman would spend hours with you at no cost, just to personally teach you all of the style tricks professional stylists taught her over the years. Because, she says, she wants every woman to have the chance to feel beautiful, whether she is wealthy and famous or fighting to make ends meet in this economy.

And imagine this woman collected in her very house all of the previously mentioned 22 rich women's unwanted designer clothes, and she would let you have them for those previously mentioned prices?

Belanger, who was a producer and host for a live lifestyle TV show in Canada called "Everyday," similar to "The View," says her business venture started on accident. She lost 40 pounds and had tons of high-end clothes she no longer wanted. A friend interested in taking the clothes let Belanger dress her, and said that she had never felt more beautiful. She said it changed her life.

Belanger says she began collecting unneeded clothes from other women she knew and now she has more than she can even get rid of.

"It's about pooling resources; you don't need all of this," she says. "And it's all about helping women, changing women's lives. If I wanted to be making money, I'd be charging for my time."

Belanger says her motivation is the "law of integrity."

"I don't care if you spend $10 or $300, I will treat you the same," she says.

So, you see, no matter how badly I wanted to keep this secret to myself, I just couldn't. Not with all this talk about integrity and equality and sharing. But keep your hands off the size 6 black Calvin Klein boots. They're mine. Mine!

A Newbie’s Guide to Designer Shoes

If you’ve been ogling designer shoes but aren’t sure where to start (or whether to make the leap!), this post is for you. I’ve been reading Tiffany’s blog at I am Style-ish for a few years now, and I’ve always admired the professional but chic way she incorporates designer shoes into her outfits. She has quite a collection, so I asked her to write a “intro to designer shoes” post for Corporette. Enjoy! — Kat

Hello Corporette readers! It’s Tiffany from I am Style-ish here! I’m so happy to be here while Kat is away enjoying time with her new little one.

I love Kat and Corporette for bringing together so many of us career driven, highly ambitious women. I also love that Kat incorporates a lot of fashion and style in her blog because I know a lot of us still want to look our best while working our way up to the top ;) I’ve never sacrificed style for my career in HR and I don’t believe that you have to. Along those lines, although I’m a very career driven woman, I also love fashion and if there is one thing that you need to know about me is that I love shoes. Not just any shoes, really really tall shoes and preferably with a red sole ;)

My first pair of designer heels was a pair of Jimmy Choo pumps that I thought were beautiful and when I wore them, I just felt fabulous! I caught the bug for designer heels after that pair and I just haven’t stopped. Even though I worked at a conservative IT Consulting firm, I never felt weird about wearing them, in fact, I got more compliments on my shoes at work than I ever expected! (In my current position as Director of Operations for a consulting firm, I work from home a lot, but my designer heels always come with me when I travel for meetings.)

I get a lot of questions about designer shoes, what to buy, how they fit, how to get them on sale and are they REALLY that much more comfortable so here are some things that I’ve learned.

Different designers fit very differently and you’ll never know which ones you like until you try them on. I very rarely order shoes online unless I’ve tried them on before only because sizing can be so inconsistent. In terms of comfort, my top choices are Miu Miu and Jimmy Choo. For very pretty but not very comfortable shoes, it’s definitely Christian Louboutin. Dior, Prada and YSL all fall into the middle for me. These all have exceptions of course as I’ve found that my Louboutin Simple 85 pumps (pictured below) are one of my most comfortable shoes (although in general, I’ve found that Louboutins are not that comfortable — but that doesn’t stop me from buying them!).

These Jimmy Choos are perfect for the office. I own many Jimmy Choo pumps as I find that they have the most office appropriate styles.

Or these Miu Miu pumps are gorgeous! It’s a 5 inch heel but with a 1 inch platform and perfect for shorties like me that like to feel that we can be a “normal” height sometimes :)

Having a hard time finding shoes in your size or on sale? Befriend the sales associate! This part is very important for a shoe lover like me! When you are trying on shoes, let your sales associate know that you are interested in more shoes that are similar or by the same brand and also if they have a sale on designer shoes, please give you a call. And then every time after that when you walk into their department, ask for them and buy all your shoes from them. It’s a win-win partnership as you get the shoes you want and they get the commission! I’ve had the same sales associate at Nordstrom for the past 4 years and he calls me every time he gets shoes in my size (I wear a size 5 which is a hard size to come by) and he also calls me when they have sales on designer shoes and I get to pick out the shoes before they go on sale to the public. This in itself has saved me hundreds, if not, thousands of dollars! If I had to wait for sales to buy my shoes, I’d be stuck with a lot of styles that I didn’t like or I’d buy a size up and try to put in extra insoles hoping it will fit (it never does, I’ve learned to only buy shoes in my size, no matter how much on sale they are!)

Comfort wise – I think that the comfort levels are different in designer and non designer shoes. I do think that designer shoes are more comfortable because of the craftsmanship. The insoles which are made with leather are much more comfortable and cushion your foot as opposed to non-designer heels which can be made with manmade materials and that are stiff and can feel like you are walking on a piece of wood. When designer shoes are uncomfortable it’s because the arch of the shoe may be a bit too high, which Louboutin is guilty of but that’s also why your foot looks so damn good in his shoes. He does an arch like no other. It’s definitely something that you have to get used to and I usually reserve those types of shoes for evenings when I know I’ll be sitting most of the time. I’m not going to say that all designer shoes are comfortable but with my experience I’ve had very little issues of getting blisters because the shoe is rubbing me the wrong way.

Recently, at a Balenciaga fashion show in Paris, super model Gisele Bundchen refused to wear Nicholas Ghesquiere’s signature 4.5 inch high heels and the Balenciaga creative director had to design flat shoes for her to walk on the runway. Last year too, models Abbey Lee Kershaw, Natasha Poly and Sasha Pivovarova had chosen to quit the Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2010 show, rather that tottering in 10 inch tall Armadillo shoes. Recently, Khloe Kardashian too, who’s rarely spotted without her killer heels despite a 5’ 10” frame, went out shopping in Calabasas, California, wearing flip flops instead of stilettos.

Comfort scores over fashion:
Closer home too, fashionistas who won’t trade their comfort for fashion say it’s better to ditch gravity-defying heels than get a twisted ankle. Model Pallavi Roy says, “Heels could turn very dangerous for a model, so if she refuses to wear such heels, there’s nothing wrong with that. Whether on or off the ramp, if fashion causes discomfort or pain, it’s better to shun it.”

Agrees designer Rina Dhaka, “My shoe came off on the ramp recently in Bangalore. That’s when I realised what scares models off. If a model refuses to wear impossibly high heels, it’s the right thing for her to do.”

Model Laxmi Rana too says that it’s advisable to give tower heels a miss than become a subject of ridicule. “There’s nothing trendy about falling face flat on the ramp when thousands of eyes are glued on you,” she says, adding, “Forget the ramp, some girls are so heel-obsessed that they wear heels even when shopping or during flights. It looks silly. Heels must be limited to special occasions.

For the rest of the days, one must wear flats that look super glam.” Dhaka, a self-confessed heelaholic, however, says it’s a challenge for a fashionista to stay away from heels. “Heels are like an addiction. They hurt, bite, torture, but you just can’t give them up. I’m yet to come across a devilishly sexy high heel shoe that’s comfy.”

What doctors say...
Experts say you can’t wear heels and not hurt your feet at the same time. Dr Naveen Talwar, sr consultant orthopaedic, Fortis Escorts, says, “There is no right way to wear heels. It’s always better to not to wear them. But, if one just can’t give up heels, then wedges are any day better.”

How to lessen heel discomfort
Wear heels for shorter periods. One should try to wear them for no longer than 2-3 hours at a stretch. When it’s required to be worn for long, always try to take off heels when you get to sit or relax. Soak your feet in hot water for 10 minutes everyday. Simply rolling your feet over a golf ball is also highly relaxing.

Evan Rachel Wood is the type of woman who is able to pull of both girly and tom-boyish styles. Back in June she was spotted wearing a Dolce & Gabbana suit to the True Blood Season 4 premiere in California.

Now the young actress has appeared in a slightly more feminine look in the form of a summery White Alessandra Rich Fall 2011 shantung shirt dress. The shirt dress comes with a full ‘skirt’ and lace top. Evan left the shirt open slightly so she could show some leg and also show off her black Giuseppe Zanotti heels. She wore the shirt dress with some simple silver drop earrings, dark eye make-up and bright lipstick. She also wore her hair in a slicked back quiff style that looks great on her and her face shape.

Evan was at this year’s Venice Film Festival 2011 for ‘The Ides of March’ film premiere in which Evan plays character, Molly Stearns. Based on the play by Beau Willimon, ‘The Ides of March’ sees a staff worker get a crash course in the dirty side of politics during a campaign trail for the new presidential candidate. The film, which premiered on opening night at the festival, is the directorial debut from George Clooney who has also given himself one of the leading roles.

Britney Spears, who was honored with the MTV Video Vanguard Award and won the “Best Pop Video” Award, wore a pair of Gina’s “Cruz” calfskin boots. The boots have a 5.5 inch heel and retail for around $980.

InStep Nanopower Shoes Create Electricty While You Walk (and Hopefully Won’t Electrocute You)

There’s something intrinsically logical about harvesting the energy that we create by walking so that we can power up some of the gadgets that we have on our person all the time. These InStep Nanopower shoes will do something like this, and they actually use liquid metal to get the job done.

Researchers Tom Krupkin and J. Ashley Taylor at UW-Madison have been working on this technology and it looks like it will be able to deliver 10 to 20W of power. This is a lot more than the electricity created by similar attempts with piezoelectrics. The process is called reverse electrowetting and includes liquid metal that is stored in pouches of the heel and sole of the shoe. As you walk, you will pump nano-sized droplets of the metal through tiny channels, creating electricity. The electricity is stored in a battery at the center of the shoe.

To access the shoe power for your gadgets, you just plug in an USB cable. They’re hoping the tech will be ready for the market in a few years and will cost about the same as the shoe you’ll end up buying, so it’s not that much more expensive.

Look no further for proof of fashion's often whimsical - and downright bizarre - flights of fancy.

We present you with the ice-skate-cum-high-heel shoe that looks like it can only belong on the catwalk parades of high-end fashion.

But, DSquared2's 'Skate Moss' boots hit stores soon, and, as models proved on Fall/Winter 2011 runway, the far-from-conservative designs are just about walkable.

Skater fashion: DSquared2's Skate Moss heels come with a built in ice-skate - that doesn't work. They go on sale next month

Teetering down the winter-themed runway, models in the show looked far from secure, some with ankles on peculiar angles.

The vertiginous Skate Moss heels gain and extra two inches by the addition of a rubber-bottomed metal skate, making them about 8 inches high.

All of the models made it down the catwalk without stumbling, however, which is more than can be said for Vivienne Westwood's famous platform heels or indeed Noritaka Tatehana's heel-less shoes of which Lady Gaga is so fond.

Certainly, the Skate Moss' could do some damage not just to unsteady wearers - a spur-like spike on the metal heel looks capable of inflicting more than just a fashionable blow.

Highs of fashion: Impractical as they may be, the heels, available from $1,485, are sure to be ice-breakers

We're not sure what the function of a skate on a stiletto would be, let alone an ice-skate that is rubber coated, but the boots are certainly eye-catching.

Glamour magazine reports that the skates will cost from $1,485 to $1,895 and will next month go on sale in stores and at Zappos Couture, giving anyone - funds permitting - the chance to take on the icy winter weather in the ultimate snow shoes.

Founded by Toronto-born twins Dean and Dan Caten, the DSquared2 label has designed many a sky-high heel, with current the women's collection including studded black leather and transparent PVC pairs.

Something tells us that you won't need to get your skates on to bag a pair of Skate Moss': As much of a talking point as the boots may be, they aren't the most practical of winter footwear options.
